The Fung Fellowship Transitions to a Semester-Long Model

2 min readMar 21, 2025

UC Berkeley’s Fung Fellowship is excited to announce a new program model, transitioning from its year-long program to a semester-long model, effective Fall 2025. This change reflects the fellowship’s continued commitment to flexibility, accessibility, and meeting students where they are in their academic and professional journeys.

Since its inception in 2016, the Fung Fellowship has empowered students to work on real-world challenges through its Health + Innovation and Conservation/Sustainability + Innovation tracks. While the year-long format provided a sustained experience, the fellowship team recognized that a semester-long model could open doors for more students to participate, especially those balancing multiple commitments, while still maintaining the depth and impact of the experience. Those students who participate will enjoy access to fellowship events and programming year-round.

Students will have the option to extend their participation into the spring semester if they choose for continued engagement and impact.

With this new format, students can continue to expect the same experiential learning, cross-disciplinary working, and mentoring opportunities, fostering the core innovation mindset that makes the Fung Fellowship unique. The core of the fellowship, cultivating an innovation mindset to address pressing health and sustainability challenges, remains unchanged.

The fellowship team is excited to welcome the next cohort of changemakers and looks forward to seeing the impact they create in just one semester in Fall 2025 and beyond!
